6/26/2023 0 Comments Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis![]() Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. So when a group of men show up at her house uninvited, she assumes it’s just the usual media-grubs. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it’s hard to escape it. Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. So I’m really looking forward to how RC Lewis incorporates it into her story! ![]() It’s not one of the more popular fairy tale retellings, and as far as I know there aren’t any other YA books that have used it as its basis. In Spinning Starlight though, we’re introduced to a totally new world and new characters in a retelling of The Wild Swans. ![]() Trust me.) Honestly I thought it was a little underrated. (Sounds like Cinder, I know, but they’re totally different. I absolutely loved RC Lewis’s first book, Stitching Snow, which was a retelling of Snow White in space. This week I am waiting on Spinning Starlight by RC Lewis, which comes out October 6, 2015. “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event created by Breaking the Spine that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating. ![]() 6/26/2023 0 Comments Yohancé by Paul Louise-Julie![]() His sense of design, combining West African symbols, imagery and style clearly carries over into his comic book and graphic storytelling. ![]() Paul Louise-Julie is already an accomplished visual artist through a variety of media including painting and sculpture. Headless Horses Sculpture by Paul Louise-Julie Mastermind Paul Louise-Julie has plenty of cards in his deck and tricks ups his sleeve as he breaths life, character and colour into the star-sprawling, galaxy-spanning Space Opera that presents familiar Science Fiction elements through a distinctly African lens. It’s a somewhat familiar story of a charming rogue scheming on his next big score who is accidentally drawn into a secret conflict between the eternal forces of light and darkness. This second volume, subti tled And Here My Troubles Began, moves us from the barracks of Auschwitz to the bungalows of the Catskills. ![]() ![]() Its form, the cartoon (the Nazis are cats, the Jews mice), succeeds perfectly in shocking us out of any lingering sense of familiararity with the events described, approaching, as it does, the unspeakable through the diminutive. Acclaimed as a quiet triumph and a brutally moving work of art, the first volume of Art Spieglman's Maus introduced readers to Vladek Spiegleman, a Jewish survivor of Hitler's Europe, and his son, a cartoonist trying to come to terms with his father, his father's terrifying story, and History itself. ![]() 6/26/2023 0 Comments The deep end diary of a wimpy![]() I find that the simple humor and writing is a good thing to help me relax at night and give me a laugh at the same time. Personally, I fairly enjoyed this book despite the fact that I am probably older than most of the audience that enjoys it. Will things turn out the way they think, or will they go off, "The Deep End." Finally, they find Campers Eden, which is an RV park and resort where it seems that they can enjoy the perfect vacation. ![]() On the way to finding their perfect camping paradise, they hit many road-bumps such as finding a place to park the RV, getting lost in the woods, and having a run in with a bear. They clean it out, buy supplies, and hit the open road. With a stroke of luck, they are able to find opportunity when Greg's Dad's brother, Uncle Gary, leaves an old RV in Greg's great grandmother's driveway. The family comes to the conclusion that they need a vacation, but the problem is that they are in strict money-saving mode. ![]() He has to not only face being cramped in a basement with his family all summer, but he can't even go hang out with his best friend Rowley because he and his family are on a trip to Europe. Anyways, the conditions in which they are living in are not only uncomfortable for Greg, but also extremely boring. Ergo, there house was destroyed by a hot tub falling through their roof. ![]() The main gist of the fifteenth book by Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Deep End, is that Greg Heffley and his family have been living in their grandmother's basement ever since some "financial issues" surfaced in the previous book. ![]() ![]() ![]() *** (1) 2021 (4) 2021 read (3) 2022 (9) 2023 (2) 2023-monthly-challenges (1) audience-adult (1) audiobook (6) Author: Shirtaloon (4) Book Bingo 22 (1) By Ear (2) Could Not Continue (1) currently-reading (4) d&d (2) did-not-finished (1) ebook (15) fantasy (41) Fantasy: LitRPG (3) favorites (4) fiction (10) form-prose (1) format-digital (1) funny (4) gamelit (5) genre-fantasy (1) he who fights with monsters (14) light (1) litrpg (44) next-in-line (1) novel (7) online (1) owned (4) progression (15) progression fantasy (8) read (5) reading (1) SF-Fantasy/LitRPG (etc) (5) shelf 2_6 (1) Shirtaloon (2) study (1) tbr-priority (1) to-read (10) unowned (4) urban fantasy (1) Top Members ![]() 6/25/2023 0 Comments Free fall by joyce sweeney![]() Yes, there are unmistakable Where the Wild Things Are vibes here as Watson encounters creatures among the trees.
